Riverfront Commons Unveils New Attractions Along Ohio River
Elected officials from cities along the Ohio River gathered at Covington Plaza to unveil plans for new attractions along the Riverfront Commons, a scenic multi-use path stretching 20 miles from Devou Park to Pendery Park. The project, spearheaded by Southbank Partners, aims to connect eight cities into one community and boost economic growth in the region.
One of the main attractions highlighted during the announcement is The Riverwalk, an active transportation system designed to cater to the urban lifestyle. The Riverwalk will feature interactive art pieces showcasing the vibrant community and serve as a vital asset for daily commuting. President and CEO of Southbank Partners, Will Weber, emphasized the project’s potential to attract top talent to the region and create a welcoming space for all walks of life.
A notable addition to the Riverfront Commons unveiled at the event is a life-sized replica of the old John Hastings ferry boat, designed by local artist Cam Miller. This replica will be installed at the intersection of Manhattan Boulevard and Berry Street in Dayton, paying homage to the city’s history as the location of the first business in Dayton. The project is set to be completed by spring 2025.
In addition to the ferry boat replica, expansions to Memorial Park in Ludlow, extensions to a trailhead in Silver Grove, and enhancements to Dave Cowens Drive and Riverboat Row in Newport are also part of the ongoing developments along the Riverfront Commons. These additions aim to enhance the overall experience for visitors and residents alike, making the path a sought-after destination for outdoor activities and community engagement.
